The Birth of the New eRACK

March 2020, the unthinkable is arrived. The planet is shutting down. The corona virus is making his way around the globe. What can we do? Biking! We are lucky to live at the foot of Mount Seymour a mountain bikers paradise. Few weeks after in April, a new passion is discovered: The eBike! My husband took is analog bike for service, the sales persons got him try an eBike there and he was hooked. I was a bit sceptical. Thought that it was lazy, why you would you need assistance, until I tried… Wow! I need one now! I realized that I won’t be able to follow with my 2 boys and husband if I don’t have an e-bike. Mother’s day 2020, I got the perfect gift… Scott Genius eRide 910. Now, I can follow my family, I can go for longer, higher, more difficult rides. I can do REAL mountain biking, now, which I couldn’t do because of physical limitation.

Because of the pandemic, the first month or so, we had to stay within our region, so carrying the e-Bikes was not a problem but we were still looking for a vertical bicycle rack to transport the bikes on our vehicle. We had an FJ Cruiser with a tire on the back door of the trunk and the door is opening on the side and not up like most vehicles. There was nothing on the market that was really soothing our needs and more all the manufacturers were out of stock.

July 2020, some activities were allowed with restrictions, BMX practices started again but not races. The small and big boys were so excited to practice a sport again with some friends and were up for some improvised competition against the other, without them knowing!! One Saturday, my husband was so in to it, he was in good shape, arrived the last on the gate, all excited, so pumped, he would be “racing” against his nemesis. The lights changed Red - Yellow - Green, the gate dropped, he started pedalling, pedalling, pedalling too hard, went up the first bump, the BMX started skidding, he lost control and BOOM! Fell on the ground and injured his shoulder. Result: Separate shoulder. Lifting an eBike up on a vertical rack, not an option anymore.

After a summer of, healing, riding gently in the mountains around our place, the health restriction had been decrease, our need to carry the eBikes and kids bikes had increase. Trip to Whistler bike park would be nice or just to go to the bike shop for repair because the eBike is not moving. We need a bicycle carrier!! And one that can lift our bikes.

September 2020, time as come, my husband went for a shopping spree at the metal shop bought aluminum to design his dream bike rack, that would do everything he needs it to do, loading the bikes and best cargo access. Using the tools he had at home, the first prototype was born. Using a linear actuator, he was able to move the rack to the ground like he wanted. The Self-Loading was Born!! The New eRACK was Born!!
